For the Generation To Come

Many parents would probably say yes to this question, but I want to look to Scripture to confirm or deny. Because once we find out what God says…there is no arguing. There is nothing you or I can add or take away. I want this blog to encourage you as you disciple, but I want to make sure you have a firm foundation. And that foundation is only found in Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11 (KJV) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

So I ask, are you called to disciple your children? Let’s pull out our concordances again and search the Scriptures. Here’s some that I found:

Deuteronomy 6:7 (KJV) And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy 4:9 (KJV) Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

Proverbs 1:8 (KJV) My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 4:1 (KJV) Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

Proverbs 23:24 (KJV) The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

All of this instruction references parents instructing their children and even grandchildren. Deuteronomy is probably the most often quoted on this subject. Think about this book, it is Moses’ teaching the Israelites before they enter the promised land. The “promised land” was a pagan and carnal place. Moses had to get them ready to take the land, physically and spiritually. The Israelites were going to have to go in and renew the land…take it back and build it up for the kingdom of God. Do we want our children to be able to go into the world and take it back and build it up for the kingdom of God? I do. Let’s not overlook the teaching of Moses in our own lives.
